      Pacific Coast Travels

I moved to Portland a few years ago after spending twenty years in Colorado, and doing the Pikes Peak Trailguide. There's plenty to explore in the mountains, rivers and coast of the Pacific Northwest, and I sometimes head overseas to explore other fun locations around the Pacific Basin. These pages are loaded with photos and stories about my travels around this part of the world.

This Travel Log is layed out in a simple magazine format that features good photos and stories about these travels. The layout couldn't be simpler: All links are obvious so you can get from any page to any other in three clicks or less, and on all the pages click the two inch photo to get the larger versions. Some of the utility links at left aren't active yet, but should be soon. I'm hoping to post several trips each year.

If you're looking for the Pikes Peak Trailguide you came to the right place. Now that I live in Portland, this web site has been overhauled to highlight my Pacific Coast Travels. The Pikes Peak Guide has been moved to the bottom of the page, and most of the old URL's will be wrong.

Latest Notes:

2007: Three Months in China.
I spent last July and October in Dongguan China on business trips. Dongguan is about 100 miles north of Hong Kong and I had plenty of weekends to explore the area. These pages include plenty of stories and pictures of local parks, temples, scenic coasts, plus Goulin mountains, and Hong Kong. The big irony is that July is the perfect time to explore Portland, and worst time to explore steamy south China.

Other than that, things are moving in slow motion here at Pacific Coast Travels. The only update to the site in the last year and a half has been the China section. It sounds like a lot of fun, but I haven't had the time or money to go places and shoot pictures. I've been promising trips to Canada and Costa Rica for more than a year, but the China trip is delaying them one more time.

Even worse, since changing this site from Pikes Peak Trailguide to Pacific Coast Travels, the numbers of viewers has dropped to about one fifth of what it was two years ago. The majority of my hits are still for Pikes Peak info because Google is still indexing the site as GhostTownSoftware instead of PacificCoastTravels. I might have to split this into two web sites to get Google to index it correctly.

Even worse, spammers are flooding my feedback form using automated bots that crawl the web looking for forums where they can post their host address, which gives them free advertising and a higher ranking in Google. It's a disease that affects feedback forms throughout the web. It has no affect on me because my form has trick question that stops bots.

Anyhow, I'm still planning a trip to Costa Rica later this year. This trip fizzled last year because I couldn't afford it. I don't want to just sit on a beach for a week but I can't afford to do much else. I can afford it now, but the China trips are delaying everything else for a few months. I still want to squeeze it in this year so I can shoot a rainforest calendar. I've been trying to find one for years but I've never seen one in the stores.

The latest pictures from China are looking real good, thanks to the new photo editor that I wrote my self. I didn't like the way any other editor worked so I made my own and the results are incredible. It lets me adjust levels, contrast and sharpness in ways other editors can't and it's a ton quicker. After I work out a few bugs I'll be posting it on this site, along with other photo utilities that I have.
Pictures from the Pikes Peak Trailguide
These pages include pictures I shot between 1998 and 2004 while researching my Trailguide CD-ROM. Now that the Pikes Peak Trailguide CD-Rom is discontinued, I thought I would post some of the pictures on the web. These pages span the entire Pikes Peak region, and include 100 of the 450 photos from the CD, plus a few others that I shot sometime later.
